-Side Note:
I found these comments on the Silent Things YouTube page:
I find it very touching that a short can have such an emotional impact on a person. This also shows how important cultural context can be within films as it is a way to truly connect with the audience on a personal level. I hope to achieve this amount of impact within my short film.
This Bulgarian philosopher's theory:
1) Begins in a state of equilibrium - everything is as it should be!
2) Suffers from disruption (disequilibrium)
3) New equilibrium is produced at the end of the narrative.
This structure is apparent in many shorts.
For example, Wish 143 by Ian Barnes.
This short tells the story of a cancer patient who is given one last wish.
..This effect may be useful for a more artistic approach to a short film. I have noticed from research that they tend to be visually dynamic, as they must entertain an audience in a short period of time.
Research and analysis of short films within my chosen genre and style (ART HOUSE/ FACTION):
A Trip the the Moon (Le Voyage Dans La Lune) [1902] created by Georges Méliès, is one of the earliest examples of short film. I chose to analyse this short as it contains many artistic elements, but more importantly, it has music running throughout which is an aspect I want my short to include.

I think that it is important to consider Disney's short films as they fit a whole narrative into a 5 minute long short in such an effective way. Although they are animated, I can still observe the use of story and how effective they are to the audience. Paperman is a good example to use as it contains no dialogue (same as most Disney shorts) but also uses music in an effective way.
